Accelerate Your Early-Stage Product

The Station 41 Accelerator provides non-dilutive funding to advance new drug, biologic, or diagnostic products.

Southern Research’s Station 41 Therapeutics Accelerator is now seeking new proposals from interested investigators within the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) to be supported and worked on collaboratively between UAB principals/inventors and Southern Research (SR) applied science units of expertise and biotechnology entrepreneurship mentors (previously known as the Alabama Drug Discovery Alliance).

What we are looking for

We are seeking proposals that demonstrate the potential to redefine the landscape of drug discovery and early preclinical development. With a focus on collaborative success, this RFP invites investigators to bring forward projects that embody innovation, potential commercial viability, and the promise of contributing to a vibrant biotech ecosystem.

Why Apply?

The Station 41 Therapeutics Accelerator is not just a funding opportunity; it’s a chance to be part of a synergistic ecosystem that blends basic, applied, and translational science. Selected projects will receive non-dilutive funding, technical support, and the guidance necessary to navigate the journey from concept to commercialization.

Grant Mechanisms and Support

Our new and flexible grant mechanisms cater to a wide range of projects, from Pre-HTS Assay Design to Accelerator-to-Venture “Bridge” Grants. Each selected proposal will be tailored with a specific budget and support plan, aligning with our stepwise approach to ensure the best possible progression for your project.

interested parties are encouraged to reach out to Erik Schwiebert, Director, or Trey Melazzo, Project Manager, for application templates and further details on this innovative program.

The submission window is currently open through the end of March 2024, with a review process set for April 2024.

This is your first step towards becoming a pivotal part of our mission to drive forward the future of therapeutics.

Have you already formed a company for your product? Consider applying for the Therapeutics Development Fund.

Southern Research has launched the Therapeutics Development Fund to provide in-kind technical and entrepreneurial support to participating companies and innovators. In exchange, the program will incentivize participating companies to remain in the State of Alabama for five years.

Station 41 Accelerator provides financial and technical support for Southern Research to partner with PIs at academic institutions to develop IP or tangible assets with commercial potential. Upon entry into the Accelerator platform, selected programs will work with technical experts and non-dilutive funding consultants to identify three milestones culminating in a Phase 1 SBIR / STTR equivalent package, an NIH Technology Readiness Level of 4, or a similarly rigorous development milestone.

The Accelerator builds on the successes of the Alabama Drug Discovery Alliance, which provides $1.4 million per year to support novel drug discovery programs.
